Interview # 1 Tricia Ryan Glenn
Born 1959

Q: What were schools like back in the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Most classrooms were consisted of less kids therefore there was more hands on teaching. Each student would get individual attention and help from the teacher. Also there was less drugs known about while kids attended school. Their was still violence because people didn't like the fact that the government was trying to integrate whites and blacks.

Q: What was the economy like during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: The average cost of living was extremely cheaper than today. Minimum wage was around $4 an hour. The stock market was thriving. Since it wasn't too expensive to live and provide for a family, the economy was growing.

Q: How does technology differ from today? 
A: There was no cell phones until the early 1990's. Instead of CD's or Ipods there was Tape recorders and record players. Colored TV didn't come out until the early 70's so it was very popular to watch TV in black and white.

Q: What was popular during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Most popular music was soft rock n' roll. The Beatles were the most popular and known band during this era. psychedelic colors were extremely popular during the 1960's. Plaid and Moo Moo dresses were also popular during the 1970's. As well was flower designs and peace signs.

Q: In your opinion, after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965, was segregation completely out lawed?
A: No even though the act was passed, segregation still continued on within cities. Blacks looked down on whites and whites continued to look down upon blacks. There was still some signs that said no black people allowed. Most workers were either African American or Mexican.


Interview #2 Mark Mann
Born 1959

Q: What were schools like back in the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Schools were very different. They started to integrate African Americans into schools around this time. This caused comotion within the cities and most whites were not accepting this change. The classrooms also had a fewer students then they do now.


Q: What was the economy like during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: The economy from my prospective wasn't terribly bad. Many things were a lot cheaper then they are today. This made it easy to afford the things we all needed and made living less expensive. I believe the economy was actually booming during this era.

Q: How does technology differ from today? 
A: Most families either drove a Station Wagon or a Catilac. Classic cars were most popular during this generation. Also most families contained at least on black and white television in their house.

Q: What was popular during the 1960's and 1970's?
 A: Music played a major role within this era. Most parents didn't allow their children to listen to Rock N' Roll because they believed it was "rebelling" music.

Q: In your opinion, after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965, was segregation completely out lawed?
A: Even though the Act was passed in 1965, many people found it difficult to adapt to this new change. Many whites were angered by this action and would cause a scene when black people began to segregate. 


Interview #3 Julie Gleckmen
Born 1955

Q: What were schools like back in the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Schools were more active and involved with the students. Classes were also longer time consuming. 

Q: What was the economy like during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: The economy was stable. Many things were more affordable and many more white men worked and were able to support their families. More jobs were available to the American people. Minorities eventually took over the labor/ manufacturing jobs.

Q: How does technology differ from today? 
A: Technology has increased numerously today. There was no cell phones so you had to talk to people in person if you wanted to interact with them. There was old coffee pots where you had to basically make it yourself. Most people listened to speakers over tapes and listened to music on records.

Q: What was popular during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Rock N' Roll became extremely popular during this era. Disco also was introduced during the 1970's. Music played a big roll during this generation. Most fashion consisted of hippy styles such as long hair, flared jeans and peace signs.

Q: In your opinion, after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965, was segregation completely out lawed?
A: Segregation was still out lawed but racism still consisted within each community. Violence still occurred against colored people. Many colored citizens found it hard to find stable good paying jobs. Many rights had the right to refuse service so colored people were denied. Many red neck people in the South still continued to fight the spread of segregation.


Interview #4 Jenny Mouse
Born 1956

Q: What were schools like back in the 1960's and 1970's?
A: They were more private and less ridicule then today. Everyone was provided with special attention and was pushed harder.


Q: What was the economy like during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: The economy in my opinion was great. Everything was more affordable and supporting myself after I moved out was a lot easier then it is today. It was also a lot easier to find a job during this Era. Many jobs opened up because more buissnesses were being developed.


Q: How does technology differ from today? 
A: Technology was by far less complicated back in the 1960's and 1970's. If we wanted to speak to someone we would have to communicate in person rather than texting or emailing. Also every dinner my family would sit and watch black and white TV. Colored television was introduced in the 1970's but many people did not have them.


Q: What was popular during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: This generation was known as the "Wild" generation. Many parents and Elders did not approve of the fashion nor music types that were being introduced to the children. Many outgoing colors and over the top fabrics/designs were introduced during this time Era.


Q: In your opinion, after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965, was segregation completely out lawed?
A: No segregation did not end in my opinion. Many African Americans held grudges towards the whites and therefore it caused conflict. The whites also had a hard time accepting colored people into their city.


Interview #5 Jay Ryan
Born 1954

Q: What were schools like back in the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Schools contained longer class time periods and less students. They also contained more breaks for the students to eat and refresh their brains.


Q: What was the economy like during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: The economy was healing from the war and was a lot better than it is now. Many more things were extremely cheaper and contained less taxes.

Q: How does technology differ from today? 
A: Technology was less advanced back in this Era. There was no computers, cell phones, nor CD players. Communication had to be made in person.

Q: What was popular during the 1960's and 1970's?
A: Bright colors containing bold statements were very popular. Many people expressed themselves through fashion and music.

Q: In your opinion, after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965, was segregation completely out lawed?
A: Segregation remained throughout the cities. Many whites were bothered with the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1965. Therefore it cause violence within the communities  The African Americans felt disrespected and also lashed out at the whites.
