The 5 W's of the Watergate Scandal

The 5 W’s of the Watergate Scandal
·         Who: Many important men were involved in the Watergate Scandal including President Nixon. A few others involved were formal attorney John Mitchell, John Dean, the White House Counsel, HR Haldman, and the White House Chief of Staff John Ehrlichman. The man discovered the ‘bugging’ of the Watergate Hotel was Frank Wills.

·         What: On June 17, 1972, five men were caught putting recording devices in the Democratic Party’s headquarters in the Watergate Hotel. Nixon was accused of the involvement of the scandal and he denied any knowledge of it. Eventually evidence proved itself and Nixon was in charge of the scandal. In fear of being impeached, Nixon resigns.

·         Where: The scandal took place at the Democratic Party’s headquarters in the Watergate Hotel. The building was located in Washington D.C. allowing Nixon’s spying to be easier.

·         When: The Watergate break in took place on June 16, 1972. The following day, June 17, Frank Wills discovered the break in. On September 15, 1972, the 5 Watergate burglars were indicted by a federal grand jury.

·         Why: President Nixon was extremely paranoid about the democratic side winning the election. Nixon hired spies to ‘bug’ the Democratic Party’s headquarters to give him the upper hand. Nixon had all of these recordings stored in his office.
